POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, members approved the following agenda and personnel items.


Approved Minutes, Agenda #12-02, July 10, 2012. Approved volunteers for Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School for the 2012-13 school year. Accepted the resignation of John McClung, LD/MI/BD Teacher, Ashton Elementary, effective August 15, 2012. Approved the employment of Shawn Hawkins, Principal, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, 220 days, Job #218-401-P, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Carla Burr, Family and Consumer Science Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job #501-615-P, effective for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the transfer of Kristin Hoffman, Grade Four Teacher, New Haven Elementary, to LD/BD/MI Teacher New Haven Elementary, Job 210-380-P, for the 2012-13 school year. Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the employment of the following individuals as Substitute Teachers for the 2012-13 school year: Beverly Alberchinski, Donna Barnes, Melissa Barnett, Mark Bell, Shirley Birchfield, Charles Blessing, Lori Braden, Kevin Brier, Amy Clendenen, Jo Ann Chaney, Stanley Cook, Edward Coon, Linda Corbin, Joan Cornelius, David Cresap, Alissa Darst, Bryan Faber, Jason Fields, Judith Fleming, Jillian Flory, Stephanie Fowble, Lewis Frum, Dewetta Gay, Allison Glass, Mary J. Approved five extended days for Stephen Williamson, Custodian at Roosevelt Elementary for summer cleaning. Accepted the resignation of John McClung, Site Based Manager, Ashton Elementary, effective August 15, 2012. Accepted the resignation of John McClung, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective August 15, 2012. Approved the employment of Angel Hoffman, Jr High Head Cheerleader Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job #503-235-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Tracey Connolly, Varsity Cheerleader Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job #503-233-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of J. Matthew Cottrill, Girls Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-118-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Kayla Tucker, Girls Head Jr High Softball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-129-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Board member Shobe recused himself from this item.


Approved the employment of D Michael Wallace, Varsity Football Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High School, Job #501-001-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of J. Matthew Cottrill, Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-103-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved David Bodkin and Tracy McCormick, Athletic Assistants, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-161-S, for the 2012-13 school year. These are unpaid positions.


Approved Charles Herdman, Athletic Assistant, Wahama Jr/Sr High School, Job #503-239-S, for the 2012-13 school year. These are unpaid positions. Approved Mark Blake and Alan Camp, Athletic Assistants, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job #501-024-S, for the 2012-13 school year. These are unpaid positions. Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check numbers 80587 thru 80629; 80631 thru 80653, totaling $713,370.06. Approved the ratification of check #80630, to Dale Shobe, in the amount of $45.00. Board member Shobe abstained from this item.


Board members also decided to cancel a Policy/Regular Business meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, and reschedule for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Other upcoming meetings include a Regular Business meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, and a Regular Business meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28.


In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members attending the meeting were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.


The Mason County Board of Education will meet again at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Mason County Career Center.
