Mason County Circuit Clerk
The office of Mason County Circuit Clerk Bill Withers has recorded the following entries on recent court case dockets:
In relation to the three men charged in the 2011 murder of Rene Gonzalez, both Chad McCallister and Steven L. Adkins, Jr. have had their trials moved from this month to September - the trial was to start July 10. The latest docket entry for Matthew C. Woods states he was in court this month to discuss an order to continue the trial and is next due in court on July 30 for a scheduling conference - the trial was originally set for July 10. The case docket for Woods also states Attorney Craig Tatterson asked to be relieved as Woods’ counsel.
In the case of William R. McDermitt, a Point Pleasant man accused of kidnapping and beating another man earlier this year, a pretrial hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 17. The case docket also reflects Attorney Craig Tatterson and Attorney Robert Bright asked to be relieved as McDermitt’s counsel. Attorney Shawn Bayliss of Hurricane is now the attorney representing McDermitt.
Mason County Sheriff’s Department
The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a traffic accident which occurred in Gallipolis Ferry near the railroad crossing on Saturday, shutting down W.Va. 2 for a period of time. On Monday, a spokesperson with the sheriff’s department said additional information about the accident was not yet available for release. It was confirmed three people were flown from the accident scene to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
West Virginia State Police
The Mason County Detachment of the West Virginia State Police reports the following arrest: Autumn N. Hightower, 22, Gallipolis Ferry, two counts of harassing and threatening phone calls, arrested on July 22 by Sgt. E.B. Starcher.
